Nigerian Breweries Plc, is the largest brewing company in
Nigeria. It’s primary costumers are the Nigerian market but it also exports to
other parts of West Africa.
Nigerian Breweries brewed its first bottle of beer, STAR
Lager, in its Lagos brewery in June, 1949, just three years after it was
incorporated that is in the year 1946.
It also commissioned its Aba Brewery in
1957, Kaduna Brewery in 1963, the Ibadan Brewery in 1982. In September 1993,
the company acquired our fifth brewery in Enugu. A sixth brewery, sited at
Ama-eke in 9th Mile, Enugu was commissioned and christened Ama Brewery in
October 2003. Today it is known as the largest brewery in Nigeria
In 2014, Nigerian Breweries Plc completed a merger with
Consolidated Breweries Plc, which lead to the inclusion of three breweries in
Awo – Omama, Makurdi and Ijebu – Ode to the company.
Due to the merger more
brands were added to the company like Williams Dark Ale, More Lager, Turbo King
Stout, Breezer, 33 Export Lager, Himalt and Nigeria’s first malt drink maltex.
In November, 2015 the Nigeria Brewery added another
achievement to its brand when it launched the International brand Strongbow
cider, this made it the first brewery in Nigeria to brew and bottle the
cider category beverage.
Nigerian Breweries now boast of ten operation breweries in
the country and from which its products are distributed to all the parts of
Nigeria. Nigeria Breweries Plc also boast of operational malting plans in
Kaduna and Aba and also supports operations of Champion Breweries Plc located
in Uyo, Adamawa State.
